Adding a calendar to a website can be an easy and stylish way to keep visitors informed on upcoming dates and important information.
In this video tutorial, I will show you how to create a sleek calendar design using Adobe Illustrator CS4. Aspects of this tutorial will also be used in a later tutorial on calendar icon design.
A majority of this tutorial will focus on using the rectangle tool and the align tools to setup the initial calendar design. To start, I will create a large rectangle for the foundation of the calendar. Next, I will create and align multiple rectangles to indicate the individual calendar dates. I will also create a calendar header where the title of the month will be added later.
With the layout of the calendar setup, I will show you how to add various gradients and color swatches to the items already created to stylize the calendar. Next, I will show you how to create and rename the individual dates on the calendar as well as how to align them to the previously created rectangles that represent each date. I will also show you how to add and align the title month to the header created earlier.
Once all of the elements have been created and aligned, I will show you how to add a folded corner to the calendar using the pen tool and the direct selection tool. This will add an additional visual element to your calendar and can give it an inviting look.
By the end of this tutorial you should have a better understanding of the techniques used to create a stylish calendar in Adobe Illustrator CS4.
