Developing a brand-centric graphical header for transactional and marketing ecommerce emails helps shoppers associate them with the store's site, potentially boosting customer loyalty.
In this video tutorial, I will show you how to create an email header in Adobe Photoshop CS4, as well as review some of the various ways email headers can be set up.
First, I will set up the dimensions for my document so that my final image will fit inside of an email. Next, I will show you how to add a content bar where links and other information can be placed. I will also show you how to add a background texture to your email banner to add some depth to the overall image.
After establishing a baseline for the email header, I will show you how to add in stock images and easily assimilate them into the rest of the design using layer styles. Using the Darken layer style, I will show you how you can instantly remove all of the white background from your image and match the hue of your image with your chosen background.
When all of the elements are in place, I will show you how to quickly lay in your title, slogan, and contact information. I will also briefly discuss the various ways this can be addressed when using an email banner along with other effective uses of HTML content in emails.
By the end of this tutorial, you should have a better understanding of the techniques used to create stylish email headers as well as know more about email headers themselves.
