When developing for the web, understanding the tools available to you is crucial to having a successful end design.
In this tutorial, I will show you how to use the Brush tool in Adobe Photoshop CS4. This tool is, perhaps, one of the most important to understand when using Photoshop.
First, I will show how to select the Brush tool either by clicking on the Brush icon, or using the assigned hot key. With the Brush tool selected, I will show you how to use the first set of controls associated with it and how to change the size, hardness, and shape of the Brush. I will also show the controls to change the Brush opacity and the Brush flow.
Next, I will show you a second Brush dialogue box with options that provide advanced Brush controls. In this second set of controls, I will show you how to randomize Brush options such as size, shape, rotation, and hue.
Finally, I will explain how many of the options for the Brush tool are similar to other tools in Photoshop. The Eraser tool, for example, uses an identical set of controls, omitting the options related to color.
By the end of this tutorial, you should have a better understanding of the many options associated with the Brush tool as well as some creative uses for them.
