As AdWords API Deadline Looms, Google Promotes v2009 Features

Web developers have just a week left to migrate to v2009 of the Google AdWords API or potentially suffer failed calls to most v13 services.

Specifically, after April 22, 2010, AdWords API v13 services like CampaignService, AdGroupService, CriterionService, AdService, InforService, KeywordToolService, and SiteSuggestionService will fail. This means that web and application developers who have software, toolsets, or even programmatic system dependent on v13 must migrate now.

v2009 Features

As the v13 sunset has approached, Google has taken pains to encourage developers to make the transition, reminding the web development community of the looming deadline and promoting v2009's new and expanded features on the Google Code Blog.

Some of the important v2009 features include:

  • Asynchronous calls that allow developers to work with much larger sets of data with more ease and without suffering significant performance penalties.
  • A new TargetingIdeaService enables keyword and placement ideas via the API.
  • New locations extensions to preview the location extension while in development.
  • Improved error code definitions to make debugging easier.
