Understanding Blending Modes in Adobe Photoshop will help you understand your design's potential and lead to a better end result.
In this tutorial, I will show you how to use Blending Modes in Adobe Photoshop CS4 to apply a logo to a cloth texture.
To begin, I will show you how to import an Illustrator file into Photoshop as a Smart Object. Leaving illustrations as smart objects will allow you to edit them in their original program and have them update in Photoshop.
With the logo imported, I will show you how to apply the texture to the logo while keeping it as a smart object by duplicating the portion of the cloth directly behind the logo and placing it on top of the logo layer. By changing the Blending Mode of the new layer to Color Burn, the texture will be applied to the logo without having to rasterize the logo layer, keeping it as a smart object.

I will also show you how to rasterize the logo and use the Linear Burn Blend Mode along with a Hue and Saturation change to apply the logo directly to the shirt. This method will prevent the logo from being modified outside of Photoshop, but can add an additional level of flexibility within the design.
By the end of this tutorial, you should have a better understanding of Blending Modes in Adobe Photoshop CS4 and how they can be used to further a design.
