Introduction to the iPhone SDK

It is time to learn to develop for Apple's extremely popular iPhone.

Those of you who watch my Flash tutorials here on Ecommerce Developer know I'm a big fan of the Adobe Flash platform. While I know it's not perfect, I don't think there's a better way to experience content on the web. However, the mobile space is a huge part of the web and, as responsible developers, I don't think we can ignore Apple's market-share or its reluctance to support the Flash player on its mobile devices.

That said, I've decided to venture into the unknown and learn Objective-C. After all, it is an Object Oriented Programming Language just like ActionScript. Hey, how hard could it be? I guess we're about to find out.

In this tutorial I'll give a quick overview of the iPhone SDK and iPhone Developer Program. We'll go over the basic features of Xcode, Interface Builder, and the iPhone Simulator, as well as learn the difference between header (.h), implementation (.m) and nib (.xib) files.

With any luck, by the end of this tutorial, you'll be well on your way to becoming an Objective-C rock star. If not, don't worry. iPhone development tutorials will be a regular feature on Ecommerce Developer.
