Until the recent release of Adobe CS5, there has been no good way to illustrate in perspective.
Prior to CS5, if you did manage to set up a working perspective grid, any further illustrating would likely have been a tedious and time-consuming process. Thankfully, the newest version of Adobe Illustrator makes it easy for us to create detailed perspective artwork with the new Perspective Grid tool.
In this video tutorial, I will show you how to use the Perspective Grid tool to create high quality perspective artwork in Adobe Illustrator CS5.
To begin, I will show you how to set up a perspective grid and how to modify it to best suit your needs. I will then demonstrate illustrate using the grid, keeping your work automatically in the proper perspective.
I will also show you how to move shapes around while keeping them in perspective. In this case, the standard Move tool will not keep your shapes in perspective. Instead, the Perspective Selection tool can be used to select and move shapes in perspective.
The Perspective Selection tool can also be used to drag flat artwork onto the perspective grid and automatically convert. I will demonstrate how this technique can be used to quickly convert two-dimensional artwork into three dimensions.
Finally, I will show you how to change between one point, two point, and three point perspectives, as well as how to save your Perspective Grid settings to act as the default every time you activate the Perspective Grid.
By the end of this tutorial, you should have a better idea of how the exciting new Perspective Grid tool works.
