Dark-themed websites are popular with designers today and many online merchants have started to create dark-themed online stores, too.
As it turns out, from graphic design perspective, nothing sets the mood for these dark websites like the site background.
In this video tutorial, I will show you how to create a dark carbon-fiber-style background in Adobe Photoshop CS4 that is perfect for your next dark-themed web design.
To begin, I will show you how to create the pattern that will be used for the complete carbon-fiber background. I will show you how to create a 4px by 4px canvas and use dark gradients to set up the carbon fiber pattern.
With the carbon fiber pattern created, I will show you how to define your design as a Photoshop pattern that can be used in other documents.
Next, I will show you how to create a new document that will be used as the carbon fiber background.
I will show you how to apply the carbon fiber pattern using a Pattern Overly on a fill layer to create the carbon fiber background. I will then show you how to set up a vignette effect using a radial gradient to add depth to the background.
By the end of this tutorial, you should have a better idea of how to create and apply carbon fiber patterns in Adobe Photoshop CS4.
