As mobile browsing becomes more prevalent, many online developers are looking for ways to communicate that their sites have mobile capabilities. One great way to do this is through an illustration.
In this video tutorial, which is part one of a new three-part series, I will show you how to create a high quality vector iPhone illustration in Adobe Illustrator CS4. In Part 1, which you are reading right now, I will be demonstrating how to build the shell of the iPhone before moving on, in Parts 2 and 3, to the interior iPhone graphic elements.
To begin, I will show you how to set up your canvas with an iPhone image as a reference to begin creating your vector iPhone illustration. I will then show you how to create a series of rounded rectangles using a base rounded rectangle and the Offset Path feature in Adobe Illustrator to start the shape of your iPhone design.
Next, I will show you how use rounded rectangles and the pathfinder tool to create metal highlight elements for the iPhone.
In Part 2, I will show you how to create some of the iPhone's interior elements. I'll finish the design in Part 3 with designing the iPhone “Lock Screen.”
