The ability to create high quality, detailed collages in Adobe Photoshop is a sought after skill in the design community and being able to create a beautiful composition in Photoshop can set you apart from other designers.
In this video tutorial, I will show you how to create a leafy photo collage over block text in Adobe Photoshop CS4.
To begin, I will show you how I originally set up my document with my bold, block text and the isolated photographic elements ready to be placed in my collage. I will then walk you through the important hotkeys that will save you time and energy when creating a photo collage.
By using Ctrl+Left Click you can easily select between layers without so much as touching the layers column. Ctrl+J will allow you to quickly duplicate a layer to use in another portion of your collage. Ctrl+T will let you free transform any layer or group of layers, giving your collage a unique and non-repetitive look. And finally, Ctrl+[ and Ctrl+] will allow you to quickly reposition your layers in Photoshop without any drag and drop necessary.
Once I have explained how to best take advantage of the hotkeys available in Photoshop, I will quickly demonstrate how to move, duplicate, transform, and position the leaf layers to cover each individual letter in my collage for a beautiful and unique design.
By the end of this tutorial, you should have a better understanding of how to create beautiful photo compositions in Adobe Photoshop and some of the hotkeys that can make your work much easier.
