Hi everyone. Just looking for feedback on BigCommerce.com - a SaaS e-commerce platform. It has an XML API and is quite feature rich. Has anyone either used the software or built anything on top of the API that they'd like to share?
Cheers, Warren Rorke Rorke-IT

Hi Warren,
I have been using Interspire’s software for some time. I am currently using their Internet Marketing platform, and have been testing their latest shopping cart program (BigCommerce is the hosted solution, you can also buy the software outright).
The Interspire Shopping Cart is a nicely developed system. It has a variety of popular/important features, and its interface is extremely intelligent/easy to use.
Like any software system, there are quirks-however, Interspire releases patches frequently. The downside to this is that if you decide to customize the source code, your job becomes more difficult when you upgrade.
We have tried using their API for the Internet Marketing system, but the API was flimsy and lacking. Additionally, they don’t offer API support. As per a Interspire representative: “…the support and maintenance policy precludes us from providing assistance with customization, integration, or the use of the APIs. Although you are free to make any customizations or integrations that you require, we are unable to provide assistance within that context”
I can’t speak for their Shopping Cart API yet-it may be better.

The API is read only, doesn't cover all resources, and is not supported, so I don't think they are serious about supporting non-trivial or non-standard types of shops, or third party integrations with accounting systems etc. It also puts a ceiling on how a shop can grow on BC in the future. Its very sad as in all other ways BC seems to be a fantastic system.
