As most who have some experience with Joomla CMS likely know, VirtueMart is the "go to" ecommerce component to use with the Joomla content management system. Wondering if the Ecommerce Developer Staff - and/or any of the ED Community - have any thoughts with regard to VirtueMart and/or any possible "how-to's" for dynamic enhancement (similar to the attention Magento has been getting over the last year).

Yes, I've done a LOT of Virtuemart sites.
The main issues I have with it are:
1) its development pace is glacial.
2) the code organization/architecture is showing its age and
3) from the user's point of view, its Achille's heel is the pricing structure (or lack thereof) that is supports. It does tiered pricing, option pricing, and global discounts, but that's about it. No x% off this category or free shipping if over $25. This is where Magento really pulls ahead of the pack. It's just for this reason alone that I'm starting to implement more Magento (that and lack of PCI PA-DSS certification for Virtuemart)

Could not "% off of this category ..." be programed/coded in to VirtueMart?
